Government releases additional cannabis tax proposals

On September 17, 2018, the Department of Finance announced a consultation of new draft proposals regarding the taxation of cannabis. These new proposals to amend the Excise Act, 2001, would provide additional excise duty rates for the provinces and territories that have signed a Coordinated Cannabis Taxation Agreement with the federal government. The government is also consulting on further rules regarding the possession of excise stamps and an exemption from excise duties for cannabis not intended for human consumption. Wolters Kluwer is publishing a printed Special Report containing the legislative proposals and accompanying explanatory notes. Simply email [email protected] or call 1-800-268-4522 and request a copy of Special Report 113H ($19.95).
